ENTROPY
Soundscape | Adobe Audition
“Entropy” is an exploration of the world’s gradual descent into disorder through the medium of sound. Sound waves imitate the journey of our world into chaos. Beginning as repeated patterns of crests and troughs, sound waves are predictable. As sound travels the waveform degrades, interacting with its environment until it ultimately disperses into an inaudible form. My aural composition reflects the gradual decay of sound partnered with the representation of the dissolution of order in the everyday world. Beginning with sounds in the key of D and loosely following musical rules–I capture a sense of calm and predictability. Then, I work in layers of synthesized and dissonant sounds to build the sense of unease and confusion. By the end of the composition there is no audible cadence, just a ringing frequency, the culmination of the layers of chaos. ”Entropy” exists as a quickened experience of the gradual slope into a state of disorder.
BLACK SWAN
Rotoscope animation | Procreate, Premiere Pro | music credit: Black Swan 2010, Clint Mansell
The Black Swan is a tale depicting the battle between self-identity and perfection. The rotoscope style animation enhances the rough around the edge nature of the black swan without losing the precision required to emanate the grace of ballet as an art form.
fun fact: I watched two seasons of Survivor while making this...
MONOTONY
Stop-motion short film | Premiere Pro, painting, collage, photography
This short stop-motion animation is created to utilize lighthearted visuals to illuminate a darker theme found in our everyday.
Humans have a habit of moving through life out of routine rather than thoughtfulness. Our nature falls into cycles of repetition without dwelling on the question of why we make each decision. Monotony is the safe and well traveled route. To find what provides each individual with what they truly desire, exploration is required.
There is more to life than the everyday scenes we experience. I urge the viewer to look beyond their day to day and ask themselves “why?”. The first step to break from the monotonous life so many are chained to is to simply realize the state they are in.
